Pittsburgh, We’re Getting it Ready for You!

Building a new state-of-the-art terminal for Pittsburgh, by Pittsburgh, has been a multi-year labor of love that is getting closer to completion with an opening expected later this fall. The project has been a powerful statement of community pride and collaboration. That new terminal will be the front door that reflects, connects and serves this region.

There are several events scheduled to celebrate the project leading up to opening day!

Ceremonial Ribbon Cutting

Saturday, October 11 | 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

The Ribbon Cutting will feature remarks from several elected leaders, including County Executive Sara Innamorato. The Ribbon Cutting does not mark the opening day for the new terminal, which will occur this fall. The date will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Ribbon Cutting signifies the beginning of this new era while also providing an opportunity to thank the many partners, stakeholders and members of the community who have supported this vision and helped make it a reality.

Media is invited to attend.

Community Open House

Saturday, October 11 | 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Registration is FULL

The event will welcome 1,500 people an hour for the opportunity to see and explore the new pre-security terminal before it opens to travelers. This includes the opportunity to see the new terminal ceiling and lighting that reflects the rolling hills and stars of Western Pennsylvania and the tree columns that reflect the region’s trees – and are just as unique. There will be a variety of activities for all ages with multiple community partners including the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and Kamin Science Center, offering interactive, educational and hands-on activations.

The Open House is free and open to all ages. Complimentary parking to be provided courtesy of F.N.B.. Registration began in August and all 10,000 time slots are filled.

Media is invited to attend.

PIT Integrated Public Trial

Trial #2 | Date TBD

PIT’s first Integrated Public Trial was held on Sept. 20. It invited 300 people to test systems including check-in to TSA to baggage claim. The participants also provided feedback on the processes that they tested.

A second Integrated Public Trial will include approximately 2,000 members of the public. The full-scale dress rehearsal will re-enact what a typical day at PIT will look and feel like once the new terminal opens. Participants will be invited to bring carry-ons and will travel as individuals and families to test, shape, and influence the new PIT experience before it officially opens.

The 2,000+ members of the public have already been selected for the trial – with the date TBD.

We’re thrilled that so many Pittsburghers expressed an interest in participating (18,000+) and registered (8,400+) for the opportunity.

Opening Day

Date TBD

The new terminal’s opening day has not yet been set – PIT’s transformation is over 94% complete and on schedule for arrival this fall. Check back often for ongoing updates.
