Pittsburgh International Airport is located around 10 miles from downtown Pittsburgh and is the main international airport serving the greater Pittsburgh area. The airport was first built in 1952, and the airport’s existing terminals were built in 1992 with two terminals that split airport operations. The Landside Terminal includes check-in, security, and baggage facilities, while the X-shaped Airside Terminal has all the gates for aircraft.
The new Landside Terminal is being built adjacent to and connected to the Airside Terminal. This new building is undergoing its finishing touches. Pittsburgh also has four runways, which is double the number that London-Heathrow has. Work on the new Landside Terminal has been ongoing since 2019, and with the terminal expected to open in 2025, the end is finally within sight. Here is what to know about the finishing touches of Pittsburgh’s new terminal that promises to significantly improve the airport.
