One of the Pittsburgh airport’s icons since 1959 is now in place in its new home in the soon-to-be-opened landside terminal – and it’s being joined by a lot of new art and artisan touches that will showcase western Pennsylvania’s look and even sound.
The sculpture, Alexander Calder’s 400-pound metal mobile called “Pittsburgh 1958,” had a place of honor in the Greater Pittsburgh Airport and then, since the existing terminal opened in 1992, hung at the top of the escalators. It had been moved last year for storage and eventual display when the new terminal was ready, and was re-installed on Aug. 21.
