Just weeks before the grand opening of the new terminal, the Alexander Calder mobile was unveiled at Pittsburgh International Airport on Thursday, displayed prominently. It is a hanging art sculpture that hangs from the ceiling, first displayed at the original Pittsburgh airport in 1959.
Members of the Airport Authority say the mobile has been carefully restored and reinstalled, reinforcing PIT’s role as both a world-class transportation hub and a cultural gateway to the Pittsburgh region. It will be part of a nature-themed artwork display throughout the terminal, designed by artists from across the country and locally.
