Airport customers craving a “Freaky Fast” sandwich shop before their flights are on a roll thanks to Jimmy John’s latest Pittsburgh-area location in the airside terminal’s concourse. Pittsburgh International executives and Jimmy John’s employees — one wearing a pickle suit — celebrated the store’s grand opening on Thursday not by cutting a ceremonial ribbon, but a comically large sub.
The new store has been a massive success since its soft launch late last month, said James Chung, the CEO of Jimmy John’s franchiser, Atlas, Inc. Jimmy John’s has more than 2,600 sandwich shops in the United States, Canada and Latin America — but in its first week, the new airport store was one of the top 10 highest-grossing locations for the Illinois-based sandwich giant, Mr. Chung said.
