More than 200 local, state and federal officials, along with other dignitaries, on Saturday celebrated the new Pittsburgh International Airport landside terminal and its benefits to the community just before 10,000 people from around the Pittsburgh region toured the soon-to-be-opened building.

While the ceremonial ribbon was cut Saturday morning, there’s still work being done on the $1.7 billion project that is nearing its final stages before opening. No opening date has been set, but Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick, among others, hailed the transformational nature of the new terminal and how it will not only make traveling easier but also showcase the high-tech and natural beauty of the Pittsburgh region and southwestern Pennsylvania. It is, as many people said, truly Pittsburgh’s front door.
