The long-awaited Pittsburgh International Airport landside terminal will open to passengers on Tuesday, Nov. 18, the Allegheny County Airport Authority announced Monday afternoon. Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis hailed the announcement as a new day for Pittsburgh.

“It improves the passenger experience and ensures this region remains on a global stage,” Cassotis said in a statement. “This terminal is industry-leading from its architecture that reflects our region to amenities like outdoor terraces and a state-of-the-art baggage system to a streamlined security checkpoint.” Monday’s announcement followed two public trials, one in September and the other in October, where community members were enlisted to simulate arrival and departure travel to test out the new facility before it opened. The airport teams opening the landside terminal worked on any slow points before making the announcement to open.
