The hard part is over with this week’s successful opening of the $1.7 billion landside terminal. But the Allegheny County Airport Authority is hardly resting on its laurels, with even more construction work ahead. The plan was always to open the terminal, even with a few things left uncompleted because they would take longer than the rest of the project. One was the landscaped outdoor terraces, two on the airside and two on the landside terminal that will open at a later date. Another is the dismantling of the train that ran for 33 years between the former terminal and the airside gates. Another was the final fate of the old terminal. That hasn’t yet been decided.

But even after Tuesday’s grand opening, the airport authority is looking further ahead with the new terminal, and compiling a list of tweaks and adjustments for the new terminal. “Where do we go from here is we evaluate the punch list. We prioritize, and we start looking at feedback we’re getting back from passengers,” said Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis. “We have an experienced design team that is surveying data from a lot of data points that we now have.”
