Family travelers with young kids will find a renovated and exciting kids play area at Pittsburgh International Airport. The new area aims to make travel easier, calmer and more enjoyable for little ones as well as their parents. The original play area, known as Kidsport, was one of the first airport spaces designed for children when it originally opened in 1983. Now, the airport decided to move it closer to the center of the terminal and expand it by around 30 percent. PIT’s Experience and Design Team collaborated with The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh to create a new space focusing on universal access and environments that are comfortable, convenient and welcoming to all little travelers.
“We wanted to not just move the physical space but actually think about what is the service we are providing to passengers traveling with children. What are their needs? What is our opportunity to serve them?” said Betts-Sonstegard, SVP, Experience and Design.
