Austin Casper Wood is an accomplished photographer and plane spotter who has taken photos all over the country, publishing images of rare planes, such as the Douglas DC-3 and Boeing 747s that fly in and out of Alaska, on his Instagram and Facebook pages. But ever since the new Pittsburgh International Airport terminal opened, Wood has been getting better views and photos much closer to home.
On a recent afternoon, he was taking pictures from a fifth-floor vantage point in the newly opened garage. “This is my favorite thing to do,” Wood said during a break in the takeoffs from Runway 10R/28L. Wood had quickly been able to take good photos of the takeoffs of all the airlines that regularly serve Pittsburgh International Airport. Next up was a special throwback livery — Reno Air — painted on an American Airlines jet and a rare visit from an Amazon Air Boeing 767.
