A chance to see just how well Pittsburgh International Airport’s new $1.7 billion terminal functions — before it actually opens to the public — is coming in September. The Allegheny Airport Authority is seeking 3,000 to 4,000 people to participate in a “full-scale dress rehearsal” to test the new terminal before it opens this fall. The authority did not announce an exact date for the trial.

“It’s our opportunity to uncover challenges, validate our processes and build confidence so that when we open, we are fully prepared to deliver a world-class airport experience,” Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis said in a release.

Volunteers acting as passengers will help conduct basic trials for more than 40 different airport functions, from the parking setup to the check-in counters, officials said. But unlike a normal day at the airport, volunteers will follow a script provided by airport officials. The experience will be as realistic as possible, down to volunteers having to produce real government-issued IDs to enter the facility.
