After years of construction and two test runs with thousands of volunteers, the new terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport finally opened to the public Tuesday morning. It is regarded as the Allegheny County Airport Authority’s masterpiece, designed under the Terminal Modernization Program.
From the early stages of design and construction, architects and developers focused on the massive structure to resemble the look and feel of the Pittsburgh region. That is accomplished with the ceiling and roof design, capturing the shapes of the region’s rolling hills.
