A crowd numbering 10,000 and various government officials will help usher in a new era in Pittsburgh air travel on Saturday. A ceremonial ribbon cutting will occur and the 10,000 registered guests will get a sneak preview of the airport’s new Landside Terminal.

The terminal officially will open later this fall. An official opening date has yet to be announced. The new $1.7 billion terminal promises to provide additional parking, shorter waits at security checkpoints and baggage claim, and outdoor plazas where people can relax before boarding their flights.
