Mineo’s Pizza House, a Pittsburgh culinary landmark, is about to take flight with a new location. The storied pizza shop that Sicily native Giovanni Mineo Sr. opened in Squirrel Hill in 1958 is among several new food businesses at the new Pittsburgh International Airport. “We just want to bring the feel of Pittsburgh to travelers,” said co-founder and third-generation pizziolo Giovanni Mineo III, 30.

Its location near Concourses A and C on the third level of the post-security terminal is “nice, opening and welcoming,” he said. “The first thing you see will be Grandpa — he is right on the wall.” Set to officially open in mid-October, Mineo’s Pizza House is just one of nearly a dozen locally based food and drink businesses at the airport. Other familiar options include Primanti Bros., Buford’s Kitchen, Marathon Diner, Gaby et Jules, Sarris Candies, Café Conmigo Coffee & Tea House, Convive Coffee, Penn Brewery, Wigle Whiskey, Local Craft and The Strip Market.
